VM Minerals: Leading Light Diesel Oil Suppliers
Light diesel oil (LDO), also known as distillate fuel or marked oil, is a petroleum product widely used in India and globally. It finds application in various sectors due to its distinct properties and benefits.
What is Light Diesel Oil?
Light diesel oil, or LDO, is a blend of components from the distillation process of crude. Light Diesel Oil falls under class C category petroleum. Basically LDO (Light Diesel Oil) is termed for medium commercial extracts from crude oil. The LDO (Light Diesel Oil)) consists of medium length chains of hydrogen and carbon mainly alkanes, cycloalkanes, aromatics and oils. Basically LDO (Light Diesel Oil) is termed for medium commercial extracts from crude oil.
LDO (Light Diesel Oil) is widely used by various industries in their manufacturing activities for the purpose of generation of heat and power. It has a lower flash point compared to heavier Fuel Oil (FO), for easier ignition. LDO is largely an industrial fuel. LDO (Light Diesel Oil) is a medium-coloured fuel, either distilled or residual fraction of various oils that is extracted while distillation.
We have two types of Light Diesel Oil,
- Black LDO
- Yellow LDO
Black LDO has high sulphur content than Yellow LDO and Its cheaper than Yellow LDO. Whereas the Yellow LDO has low sulphur and its bit costlier than black LDO.
Properties of Light Diesel Oil:
- High Cetane Number (min. 40): Ensures smooth ignition, minimizing noise and emissions.
- Low Sulfur Content: Promotes cleaner burning and protects engines.
- Low Viscosity: Enables easy flow, crucial for cold starts and proper atomization.
- Good Lubricity: Reduces wear and tear on engine components.
Benefits of Using Light Diesel Oil:
- Reduced Emissions: Lower smoke and pollutants compared to HDO.
- Improved Fuel Economy: Up to 10% better mileage due to efficient combustion.
- Reduced Wear and Tear: Enhanced lubricity extends engine life and lowers maintenance costs.
- Improved Performance: Increased power and torque due to better combustion.
Applications of Light Diesel Oil in India:
- Automotive: Primarily used in diesel cars, SUVs, and light trucks.
- Stationary Engines: Powers generators, pumps, and other industrial equipment.
- Agriculture: Fuels tractors, combines, and other farm machinery.
- Construction: Operates excavators, bulldozers, and other construction vehicles.
- Mining: Powers dump trucks, haul trucks, and other mining equipment.
- Industries: Employed in boilers, furnaces, pre-heaters, and heat treatment plants.
Uses
It is mainly used in low RPM engines like lift irrigation pump sets, Agri machineries and for firing purposes in industries such as boilers, furnaces, pre heaters and heat treatment plants.
